Saraswati Pooja

Why it's performed

To seek Saraswati's blessings for intellect, speech, and artistic skill, and to express gratitude for books, instruments, and tools of learning that sustain a student's or artist's growth.

When it's performed

Widely observed on Vasant Panchami in the month of Magha, and also on the final days of Navaratri (Maha Navami/Ayudha Puja) when books and instruments are ritually blessed.

How it's performed

1. Clean and set up a small altar with a Saraswati image or idol, veena, and white flowers.
2. Invoke Ganesha, then Saraswati with a kalasha and lit lamp.
3. Offer white flowers, yellow or white sweets, and akshata while chanting the Saraswati mantra.
4. Place books, instruments, and tools before the deity for blessing.
5. Conclude with aarti and prasad distribution.
